How to Fulfill Your Dreams With a Vision Board

We all have a long list of things we would like to accomplish before we “kick the bucket” and we day dream of places we would love to visit someday. Usually these topics come up when we watch a television show of someone traveling the world and we vow that one day that will be us, but then we wake up the next day and carry on with our lives, not making a conscious effort to actually do any of these things. The problem is that dreams are sometimes hard to imagine. We can’t really touch or feel a dream. It is more of an emotion or passion that we feel deep within ourselves. Creating a vision board can turn dreams into something tangible to manifest in our lives and turn them into a reality.

Vision boards are important because they help us turn our dreams into something that we can perceive with our senses. When we see our dreams visually, they go from being something we might do someday to becoming something we done. I created a dream board earlier this year and have already achieved so many things. I have tried many different forms of dream boards from structured ones to ones just scribbled on a piece of paper. After many trials, I finally found a format and a process that works for me. Structured vision boards that have different sections for health and wealth for example didn’t work for me personally because I felt like I was not being authentic and was trying too hard to have goals that would fit into this template. The current vision board I have works for me because it feels like a work of art and I can be really creative with it. Below is the process that I use to create a vision board.

~My Process~

I first determine what my goals are. There are several places that I want to visit and big things I want to accomplish like writing a book. The next thing I do is very important and a step that can be overlooked, but is crucial in achieving a goal. I determine why I want to accomplish those goals and I make sure that it is for a good reason. I want to travel because I want to understand different cultures and experience different ways of life. I also want to be able to look back on my life and feel like I was able to see all the things I wanted to see. I want to write a book because I want to help people by sharing advice.

Next, I find inspiration with pictures. Since I want to travel more, I put pictures of places I want to go and places that I have been. It is important for me to put pictures of places I have been because it shows that I have already met a goal and it keeps me motivated to continue. I use my own pictures and I also use sites like We Heart It and Pinterest.

Then, at the end of each month, I take the pictures off the board and put them in a notebook to look back on later. I really like doing this because I can see my progress on my goals.

~Tips and Tricks~

  • Make sure the board makes an impact on you. The pictures on your board should send a powerful message to you and ignite a spark. If they don’t, keep looking for something that will work for you.
  • Try different templates. I tried several templates before I settled on the one I have now. If a structured template works for you, start there. If you search vision boards on Google, hundreds of websites come up. Don’t get discouraged and do what works for you.
  • Place it somewhere you will see everyday. My board is right next to my bed. It is the first thing that I see in the morning and the last thing I see at night.
  • Switch up the content frequently. I change the content of my board monthly. I even have a picture that shows the month so it reminds me to change it for the next month.
  • It doesn’t have to be perfect. There is no right or wrong way to make a vision board. Some of my pictures are of things that simply make me happy. One of my goals is to enjoy life more so for me, these pictures help me to meet that goal. You don’t have to explain the pictures to anyone else. This board is for you!

I hope you enjoyed this post and feel free to share with me if you have a vision board and any tips that you have. I would love to hear from you. I also have a new video up on my YouTube channel on how to dress for your first job.

I will be posting a new video on Wednesday on goal setting and will be posting a new blog on Saturday.

Hope you have a great week!
