How To Live More in the Present- 30 Day Challenge

Something that I have always struggled with is not staying in the present moment. I tend to either dwell on the past or worry about the future. Both of these things I have no control over and I don’t enjoy my life right in front of me. I have been realizing that if I continue to stay in the past or future, my life will begin to pass me by. So, I am starting a 30 day challenge for myself to live more in the moment. Here are a few of the things that I am going to start implementing in my life for the next 30 days and how you can do the same.

*Limit Distractions*

Being distracted by social media and TV makes my mind wander to things that I can’t control and takes me away from the present moment. When I do things like watch TV or scroll on social media, an hour or two goes by without even thinking about it.  I realize I waste a lot of time in the morning scrolling on my phone so my goal for the next 30 days is to stay off my phone in the morning. Another thing I waste a lot of time on is watching TV in the evening after I get out of work so my goal for the next 30 days is to only watch an hour of TV in the evening.

Challenge for you: Determine what your biggest distractions are and try to figure out something small you can do everyday to limit that distraction.

*Stay Focused*

I know that whenever I plan out my day, it helps me to stay focused on the present moment. Making to-do lists helps me focus on the tasks for the day and helps my mind stay in that day. My plan for the next 30 days is to write in my planner weekly and write to-do lists daily. By planning out my day, I will be able to focus on just those tasks and not on the future as much.

Challenge for you: Write out the tasks that you need to do on a weekly and daily basis for 30 days.

*Clear Your Mind*

Sometimes even when I do limit social media, TV, and make daily to-do’s, my mind still seems to wander to things I can’t control. The biggest challenge for me is going to be changing my thoughts. My goal for the next 30 days is to meditate for 10 minutes a day. I am using an app called Headspace which is helpful for beginners.

Challenge for you: Find something that you think would help you clear your mind and try it for 30 days.

I hope you find this helpful going into the New Year and try to implement some of these things into your life. I will update you after the 30 day challenge is up and let you all know how it has helped.

Next week there will be no blog post in preparation for my internship series starting January 1st. I will be posting blogs and videos every day that week on internship advice from conquering your first day to things you should do before you exit your internship.

Check out my latest video on my YouTube channel below on how I got two internships while I was still earning my bachelor’s degree. If you like my channel, subscribe to get notified when I post a new video.

Hope you guys have a great week and stay tuned for more!
